Honest Kitchen Pet Food - So Good Humans Can Eat It

The Honest Kitchen was started in 2002 by a holistic canine nutritionist, Lucy Postins, who after reading online that a raw diet might help her dog’s ear infections and skin issues, experimented with dehydrated raw food in her home kitchen. She wanted a food solution that was easy to prepare and store, which resulted in The Honest Kitchen Dehydrated Food we know today.

Their passionate belief that dogs are part of the family, and should be fed as such with proper food, has attracted media attention from the likes of The New York Times, Wall Street Journal and The Huffington Post. As Lucy puts it simply: “They’re the same ingredients that I feed my human family. To me it’s not gourmet, it’s just common sense.”

The Dehydrated Food

Healthy whole foods are dehydrated into a compact, nutrient dense mixture resembling blended muesli with visible, recognisable chunks of food. The facility and all the ingredients are 100% Human Grade FDA-approved; The Honest Kitchen makes their food in USA, and follows at least a hundred manufacturing and quality control regulations, ensuring your dog food is completely safe and even fit for human consumption.

How Is It Made?

Using warm air, fresh whole foods are gently dehydrated, and are finely diced for easy digestion. This minimal processing allows the food to be naturally preserved without chemicals, and maintain its natural nutrients, enzymes and nutritional integrity.

The ingredients are carefully selected from countries worldwide, of which include responsibly sourced meats and non-GMO fruits & veggies. They are sourced directly from the human food chain, and do not come from rendering plants or by-products from other industries. Absolutely no chemicals, fillers, or preservatives are used. It’s so safe that even humans taste test the food, with their dogs who are of course, more excited to eat The Honest Kitchen than their humans are.

How To Prepare?

1) Mix food with warm water
2) Stir well and wait 3 to 5 minutes for food to hydrate (the food will increase to 4 times the original weight, for example, 10lb of food will become 40lb)
3) Serve with love

It can be:
  • Served alone as a complete and balanced meal
  • Added to daily meals for variety and enhanced appetite
  • Fed as a replacement for raw food when traveling

    Why Feed The Honest Kitchen?

As mentioned earlier, due to the gentle dehydration process, the food is able to keep its natural nutrients; this includes phytonutrients (nutrients from plants), which are full of antioxidants that support overall good health and increased energy levels. They can also help prevent disease, and help to keep your pet’s body working properly.

If you’re looking for an alternative to canned and dry food, The Honest Kitchen offers the wholesome goodness of homemade meals but in a safer, more convenient form at a lower cost. Buying ingredients from the supermarket and preparing the food yourself would be costlier, messier, more time-consuming, and most importantly, there will be a risk of the food getting contaminated by disease-causing bacteria (like Salmonella, E. Coli and Listeria).

    Taste Tester: Bungee (@bungeetoy)

“The Honest Kitchen added 2 new flavours recently, and being a big fan of their food I immediately requested for their samples. Bungee is currently on Zeal which is a fish based diet. This is the only flavour he could eat due to his allergies to poultry and potatoes. The new flavour, Brave, contains minimal ingredients created mainly for dogs with allergies. Brave’s powder is finer as compared to Zeal and it smells really good.

After rehydrating, I noticed the formula is thicker and less watery than I thought. This is definitely a plus point as Bungee will not get too messy and cleaning is a lot easier. I would highly recommend Brave to furkids with allergies or for owners who are looking for lesser ingredients in their dogs’ diet.”
